This peculiar galaxy is the result of several mergers with other galaxies. Some were spirals (revealed by the central dust lanes and by the presence of globular clusters, rare in ellipticals). NGC 1317 is the smaller spiral below it. Taken with a CDK 20inch, SBIG STX 16803. 8 hours exposure (L: 2.5h; RGB: 5.5h)
